Biocatalysis: from Promise to Practice
Dr. Francesco Mutti, Head of Biocatalysis at UvA Van 't Hoff Institute for Molecular Sciences
Francesco's research focuses on synthesizing, engineering, and applying natural and artificially designed enzymes. Biocatalysis has been described as the ‘Holy Grail’ of sustainability, and a toolbox for industrial applications. However, this bio-transition has yet to fully happen. Francesco addresses challenges and solutions for powerful reactions and greener processes, spacing from the synthesis of pharmaceuticals to plastic pollution bioremediation.
Transforming The Global Tea Industry Through Advancing in Science and Agriculture
Taisa Hansen, Chief Research and Innovation Officer at LIPTON Teas and Infusions
Taisa, a Chemical Engineer by education, has worked more than 20 years in Research and Innovation leadership positions at Kraft, Coca-Cola, and Danone. She is a passionate leader who has guided both global teams and regional teams across the Americas and Europe. Energized by consumer-driven innovation, health and sustainability, Taisa believes in growing individuals and teams through collaboration and curiosity.
Taisa will guide us through LIPTON Teas and Infusions’ transformation to becoming the world’s leading tea business, including its relocation to Amsterdam and how innovation is shaping the company’s role in promoting a healthier and more sustainable world. Taisa will introduce scientific advances in tea and health as well as explain how AI-supported precision agriculture is helping to tackle climate change.

In this interactive session, the goal is to talk about a few of these tools and insights including how to explore, how to prepare, do’s and don’ts, and some other tips on professional development."

About Dr. Maikel Boot
Maikel is a seasoned academic (PhD @ VU, Postdoc @ Yale), and currently works as a Technical Director at a US research consulting firm and a Dutch data science & AI firm. In this role, he manages internal teams of PhD-level researchers to work on cutting-edge projects for global big pharma & biotech. Maikel is passionate about working at the frontier of science and learning about innovations in health care, and enjoys mentoring young academics.
